I Got It From My Daddy
Inherited Pride.
Growing up, the World Cup was an event in our home. My father taped every single game on VHS. After work I remember sitting and watching with him. In that pre-streaming era, the favorite games were kept and we would rewatch them for years to come.
All these years later I still remember the excitement and the buildup leading up to each tournament. The conversations as everyone guessed who would win based on the recent performance of their favorite players. The funny comments as we looked at just how many Africans truly constituted the European teams. The calls, the dinners, the merriment leading up to the World Cup.
That feeling was not about a sport. It was inherited pride. It was watching your people step forward and claim their place on a world stage. It was belonging you did not have to explain to anyone in that room because everyone already felt it.
That is the feeling I am building toward right now. The same one my father gave me. And this summer, as thirty-two nations carry their colors into stadiums around the world, I want you to feel it too. Not just in the watching. In the wearing.
Rep Your Colors
Your country's colors mean so much.
When that flag is flown and the national anthem sung, I do not care how developed or underdeveloped, how just or unjust, you still bear that pride. Watching your country step onto the global stage is so much more than a game.
It is proof. Proof that our people are worth celebrating, our story worth being told, our resilience worth being honored. That we too have an equal place on the global stage.
These colors are not mere decoration. They are a declaration. And when you choose a piece that carries that same meaning, you are making the same declaration on your own terms, in your own time, in your own life.
