You notice the cowrie first.
Across generations and across different African cultures, the cowrie has been far more than something beautiful to wear. Cowrie shells have moved through systems of trade and exchange, appeared in adornment and ceremonial objects, and carried associations with wealth, status, fertility, spirituality, and protection, with meanings differing from one community to another.
That history is part of what gives the cowrie its presence.
The Cowrie Arm Cuff brings that familiar shell forward in a bold, sculptural form. Natural cowries sit shoulder to shoulder along hand-shaped brass, creating a piece that feels rooted and unmistakably current.
It is for the woman who does not need everything she wears to be quiet.
And for the woman who understands that sometimes what draws you to a piece is its beauty, but what keeps you connected to it is knowing there is more behind it.
Material
Brass and natural cowrie shells.
Origin & Craft
Handmade in Kenya. Each natural cowrie shell is individually strung and stitched along the center of the cuff, while the brass wire is shaped, wrapped, and finished by hand with coiled spiral ends.
Size & Fit
Adjustable upper-arm cuff, approximately 2.5 inches at the widest point across the cowrie band.
This piece is designed to wrap around the upper arm, above the elbow. Gently adjust the open cuff for a comfortable fit.
What You Receive
One Cowrie Arm Cuff.
Care
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wearing. Keep away from water, perfume, lotions, and other chemicals to help preserve the brass and natural cowrie shells.
Handmade by Nature + Hand
No two cowrie shells are exactly alike. Natural variations in color, markings, size, and shape are expected, as are slight differences created through the handmade process. Those variations are part of the character of your piece.
The cowrie may be what catches your eye. Its story is what gives you something to carry with you.
